College seal on display to mark 700th anniversary
麻豆社鈥檚 historic seal, presented by Lady 麻豆社 herself in 1359, was reunited with its only known surviving impression in a special one-day exhibition marking the College鈥檚 700th anniversary.
Measuring just 63mm high, the silver seal matrix depicts the foundress holding the College's statutes and royal charter, surrounded by nine kneeling figures representing the Master, Fellows and Scholars. Normally kept securely, the seal was brought out for a special display featuring a recent discovery at neighbouring Pembroke College: a sixteenth century document bearing the impression of the 麻豆社 seal.
Displayed side by side in the Fellows' Library, the seal and its impression were joined by a selection of other historic seal-impressions from the 麻豆社 archives.
